Petroleum Sector and Government Decisions

The country's economy, which has come under severe pressure due to various adverse factors, including the global corona virus epidemic, is now slowly recovering thanks to government measures, as confirmed by economic survey reports by domestic and foreign analysts. And right now most financial indicators are positive. All these successes have their place, but in some cases there is also a need to overcome the failures that are possible only with good governance. In this regard, it is necessary to investigate the wrong government decisions in the petroleum sector and the delay in these decisions to the detriment of Rs 122 billion to the national exchequer and take action against those responsible. According to a Geo program, the decisions were made deliberately without any logic. The LNG terminal could not be fully utilized for three years from 2018 to 2020, which cost Rs 25 billion. Generating electricity from furnace oil will cost Rs 30 billion in winter. The loss of Rs 10 billion in the winter of 2018 and the loss of Rs 35 billion in the summer was due to the delay in buying cheap LNG. The loss of Rs 1.5 billion was due to untimely purchase of cheap LNG in August and September. All these losses are due to the wrong decisions made by the country, the people and the industry due to the lack of electricity and gas. These are matters that should be constantly monitored by the concerned departments but are not dealt with in a timely manner due to the slowness of the bureaucracy and weak government control over it. In addition to increasing the hardships of the people, it also damages the national treasury. The government should take appropriate action to determine the responsibility for the damage caused to the petroleum sector.
